The promoter of human rights mechanism in ASEAN

Ms. Wahyuningrum is a leader in promoting human rights mechanisms, children's rights, and women's rights in Southeast Asia. She is the founder and senior advisor of Weaving Women's Voices in ASEAN (WEAVE), a network Feminist organization working on the rights of women and girls in Southeast Asia. She is a senior advisor of the ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights network. She has been recognized for her outstanding work on human rights and has been appointed as Indonesia’s representative of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) for two terms (2019-2021 and 2022-2024). In 2023, she also served as the chairwoman. In her work at AICHR, she has been instrumental in advocating for children's rights. Her work focuses on communication on the topic of gender: freedom of opinion, expression, association, and religion, as well as the right to an effective remedy, prevention of torture, countering violent extremism and humanitarian action, counter-trafficking, and the rights of migrant workers.
