Initiator of Mobile Stroke Unit - Stroke One Stop :
Associate Professor Yongchai has made a substantial contribution to mitigating the shortage of medical specialists with Telemedicine and improving access to treatment in remote areas. The Mobile Stroke Unit – Stroke One Stop (MSU-SOS) initiative involves the deployment of specially equipped vehicles featuring onboard brain computed tomography (CT) scanners, essential medications, and a teleconsultation system using 4G/5G internet connectivity. This enables real-time communication with neurologists, who can make immediate decisions regarding the administration of thrombolytic agents directly on board. Patients can then be referred for endovascular treatment without delay. Launched on 18 May 2018, the MSU-SOS has provided services in remote areas across various regions of Thailand. To date, over 2,700 patients have been treated. The project has significantly reduced the time to diagnosis, increased the likelihood of receiving thrombolytic therapy, and lowered the rates of disability. It has also reduced disparities in access to care. The success of MSU-SOS has led to the expansion of services through the Mobile Stroke Treatment Vehicle in Honor of the Monarchy initiative, which aims to reduce inequalities in the treatment of acute ischemic stroke. This initiative has been implemented in 21 Crown Prince Hospitals across the country, contributing to the advancement of acute stroke care standards in Thailand. Furthermore, the program supports Thailand’s vision of becoming a regional and global leader in medical innovation by opening opportunities to expand the medical innovation market, including the production and deployment of Mobile Stroke Units throughout Southeast Asia and beyond.
