Dean of the medical institute of the nation :
Professor Apichat Asavamongkolkul, M.D., assumed the deanship of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, on October 1, 2022. His distinguished career at the institution spans multiple leadership roles, including Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Physical Therapy from 2019 to 2022. He also served two separate terms as Deputy Dean for Administration—first under Clinical Professor Emeritus Teerawat Kulthanan, M.D. (2007–2011), and later during the tenure of Professor Prasit Watanapa, M.D., Ph.D. (2015–2019). His leadership approach emphasizes three core principles: exemplary governance, proactive risk management, and robust business continuity planning. He champions collaboration both within Mahidol University and through strategic partnerships with public and private organizations. Under his guidance, the Faculty has embraced continuous learning as fundamental to institutional growth, consistently integrating new knowledge and innovative practices into daily operations. Through this commitment to excellence and sustainability, he continues to transform Siriraj into an increasingly efficient, impactful, and resilient institution that serves as a model for medical education and healthcare delivery worldwide. Today, he leads Thailand's oldest and largest medical school, which stands among Southeast Asia's most prestigious medical institutions. The Faculty operates an extensive healthcare network comprising three major hospitals: Siriraj Hospital, Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital, and the Golden Jubilee Medical Center. This impressive infrastructure, supported by more than 22,000 staff members, serves over 4.7 million patient visits each year. The Faculty's educational mission encompasses the full spectrum of medical training. With more than 4,500 students currently enrolled, it offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs alongside comprehensive residency, subspecialty, and fellowship training. This breadth of programming positions Siriraj as a cornerstone of medical education in the region. Research excellence defines another pillar of the Faculty's mission. As Mahidol University's leading contributor to international publications, Siriraj researchers consistently publish in the world's most prestigious medical journals. These scholarly contributions not only advance global medical knowledge but also directly improve patient outcomes and enhance public health across society. The Faculty operates under an ambitious vision: "To be a medical institution of the land that creates knowledge and services beneficial to global health." Realizing this vision requires sophisticated organizational leadership and strategic planning—qualities that define the administrative philosophy of Professor Apichat Asavamongkolkul, M.D.
