Healthcare Industry Supply Chain Innovation :
K. Akaphong is a licensed pharmacist and a leader in innovation for developing supply chain management systems in the healthcare industry. He has extensive experience in system development for both healthcare and manufacturing sectors (factories). He has led the implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and SAP systems, specifically in the MM, WMS, and TMS modules for warehouse and transportation management. He designed inventory storage systems (Fixed BIN / Random BIN) based on product movement characteristics, resulting in accurate and rapid product delivery. In the hospital sector, he designed and implemented a centralized ERP system covering accounting, procurement, and IT systems. He also developed the Closed Loop Medication Management System (CLMMS), which achieved HIMSS Analytics Stage 6 certification, enhancing patient care quality and safety. In the retail pharmacy sector, he oversaw operations for a network of 104 pharmacy branches nationwide, leading the transformation of front-end systems (POS) and implementing a centralized ERP system (PeopleSoft) for back-end operations, including inventory, procurement, transportation, and distribution center management. This enabled efficient end-to-end supply chain management across the pharmacy network. His outstanding work in designing and developing ERP systems spans the entire supply chain—from manufacturing plants to hospitals and pharmacies—both domestically and internationally. Notably, he conceptualized centralized procurement that integrates networked business data with ERP systems via secure, internationally standardized APIs. He also applied data analytics and AI to ensure seamless and safe data integration, reducing costs, increasing transparency, and easing the workload of healthcare professionals—allowing more time for direct patient care. Furthermore, he incorporated Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into supply chain management to support sustainable system development. His achievements not only demonstrate professional expertise but also reflect values aligned with Mahidol University’s commitment to serving humanity, contributing to improved patient care, and setting a benchmark for sustainable healthcare industry development.
