Public Participation in Environmental Management

Public Participation in Environmental Management:
K.Thanayot has over 34 years of experience in public health. He is dedicated to promoting public awareness and fostering a positive attitude towards serious waste separation at the local level. Additionally, he has established a network for orphan waste separation in Pathum Thani Province. For over 7 years, he has shared household waste management techniques within and outside the province. Currently, there are more than 10 self-operating waste separation groups supported by the municipality, reducing landfill waste by 705.74 tons and greenhouse gas emissions by 945.72 tons of CO2 equivalent over 10 years (2014-2024). The sale of recycled waste generated an income of 505,024.60 THB from 2022-2024. There are designated hazardous waste separation points in villages, collected monthly, and food waste bins to reduce odor and make use of waste. Initiatives include promoting UHT milk carton recycling, multi-layer plastic (MLP) separation and used cooking oil exchange programs. Orphan waste separation is also encouraged, with agreements with private companies for incineration to generate electricity, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and extend landfill life. These efforts earned the Gold Healthy City Award for the fiscal year 2024 from the Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health.
