Policy Driver in Food and Nutrition Policy:
Mr. Araya Rojjanawanicharkorn is key person in improving food and nutrition regulations to solve health problems of Thai people by emphasizing on developing the food production enterprises to international standards in order to promote competitiveness in the global market and still protect consumers. His works include policy research, create acceptance from all sectors, and implementation in community to create health for Thai people, as follow: 1) Healthier Choice Logo on packaged food to drive reformulation of food products to reduce sweetness, oil and saltiness.; 2) Food production standards (Good Manufacturing Practice) to raise the safety of all food manufacturers in Thailand.; 3) Manual for solving problem of drinking water in sealed containers for Thai FDA and entrepreneurs.; 4) Solving the problem of iodine deficiency with the development of a machine for salt iodization.; 5) Guidelines setting for solving Thailand's trans-fat problem.; 6) Establishing a mobile unit for food safety to survey food safety situation throughout the country, create a database for policy making.; and 7) Endorsing tax measures on food products that affect health both from sugar and sodium.
